Environmental
Issues
SSMR carried out a survey for the
Environment Agency,
in partnership with the
Department of Sociology,
to explore the public’s response and
understanding of flood warnings. A combined
methodological approach was employed initially
using a secondary analysis of existing Post
Events survey data to show how previous flood
victims responded when faced with an emergency
flood situation. This information, as well as
that provided by focus groups and interviews,
informed the final survey stage of the project
where respondents were asked how they would act
when faced with a set of flood scenarios.
