Got Scrap Brass to Sell in Essex?
Stewarts Scrap Metal Recycling buys scrap brass from members of the public, tradespeople and commercial businesses, with competitive market-led prices based on the material they have and the current market.
Brass is one of the more valuable everyday non-ferrous metals and can be found in far more places than many people realise.
We regularly buy brass from plumbers, heating engineers, builders, property maintenance trades, engineering companies, workshops, commercial businesses and members of the public.
Whether someone has a bucket of old brass fittings, taps from a bathroom refurbishment, brass ornaments from a house clearance, engineering components, brass swarf or a larger commercial quantity, we’d be happy to take a look.
Not sure whether it’s brass?
Bring it in. We’ll help identify it.

Don’t Just Take Our Word For it – See What Our Customers Say
We’re proud of the reputation Stewarts Scrap Metal Recycling has built.
Where is Brass Found
Brass is used extensively in homes, plumbing and heating systems, engineering, machinery and commercial buildings.
Common sources of scrap brass include:
Not everything that looks yellow or gold-coloured is necessarily solid brass.
If a customer isn’t sure what they’ve got, we’re happy to help identify and grade it.
Mixed Brass
A large proportion of the everyday brass we buy comes in as mixed brass.
This can include a mixture of brass fittings, taps, valves, plumbing components and other suitable brass items.
For plumbers and heating engineers in particular, mixed brass can accumulate surprisingly quickly.
A bucket containing old fittings, valves and other brass components can represent a valuable load without somebody necessarily needing to spend hours dismantling every individual item.
Is Brass Worth Stripping
Not always.
Removing certain attachments can sometimes affect the grade, but the additional value needs to justify the time and effort involved.
Mixed brass itself can be a valuable scrap grade.
We don’t want to encourage customers to spend hours stripping or dismantling something for a relatively small additional return.
Instead, ask us first.
Show us what you’ve got and we’ll explain how we’d grade it and whether additional preparation is actually worthwhile.
We want to help customers get the best return for their scrap – not give them unnecessary work.
Brass Plumbings & Fittings
Brass is everywhere in the plumbing and heating trade.
We buy suitable old and redundant:
This makes plumbers and heating engineers particularly important customers for us.
Their brass also often comes alongside valuable copper tube, cylinders and other non-ferrous material.
Customers don’t necessarily need to know every grade before they visit.
If they’ve got copper, brass and other non-ferrous metals from a job, bring them in and we’ll help make sure the different materials are correctly identified and graded.
Brass Taps & Values
Old taps and valves are another common source of scrap brass.
We see them from:
They can contain brass alongside steel, plastic, rubber and other materials, so their construction can affect how they’re graded.
Again, we don’t want to tell people automatically to dismantle every tap or valve.
Bring us some first.
We’ll explain how we’re grading them and whether doing anything differently with future loads would actually be worth their time.

We Don’t Just Buy Your Brass – We’ll Help You Understand it
This is one of the most important Stewarts messages and I’d like it carried across the new price pages.
At Stewarts Scrap Metal Recycling, we don’t just want to weigh somebody’s material and send them on their way without explaining anything.
If they’ve got different materials mixed together, we’ll help identify them.
If separating something differently could help them get better value from future loads, we’ll tell them.
